Manx Concert Brass will perform music from stage and screen at a free concert at St German’s Cathedral in Peel on Saturday 7 November, starting at 19:30, according to Isle of Man Today.

The programme includes music from The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, alongside film themes by John Williams and Hans Zimmer.

Two guests will play solo numbers and join the band. Mark Wilkinson is principal cornet of Foden’s Band, which won its 14th British Open title last month. He was awarded the Iles Medal in 2022.

The second guest is Manx actor and singer Damian Kneale. He toured the UK in the official production of Les Miserables and fronted this year’s Manx Last Night of the Proms.

The evening will mark 30 years since the band won the Fourth Section at the National Brass Band Championship Finals in Cardiff. Philip Sparke’s Malvern Suite, the piece it played that day, will feature in the programme.

Band chairman Stephen Maddocks said Mr Wilkinson was “a truly world-class performer who has become a friend of the band”.

The concert is part of the cathedral’s Foundation for Music and the Arts series, and there is no charge for entry.
