Logos Hope, billed as the world’s largest floating book fair, will berth in Douglas Harbour from 6 to 23 November, according to Isle of Man Today.
The former ferry is operated by GBA Ships, a German non-profit organisation that promotes literacy, education and cross-cultural understanding. It will be the first visit by one of the organisation’s vessels since its sister ship, Logos, called at the island in 1984. Local churches have supported the visit, which was confirmed only in late August.
More than 5,000 titles will be on sale at affordable prices. Subjects range from science, sport and cookery to languages, faith and medicine, alongside children’s books, dictionaries and atlases. Visitors can also watch a short film, try interactive displays, stop at the onboard Hope Café and meet crew from around 60 countries.
Andy Sheath, a crew member from Peel who has lived aboard since 2021, said: “It feels like bringing my home to my home, two worlds colliding.”
Opening times:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 to 22:00
- Sunday: 13:00 to 22:00
- Closed on Mondays
