Mark Burman won the first half-marathon in the history of Northern AC’s Ramsey road race on Saturday, holding off a pursuing James Read by 25 seconds, according to Isle of Man Today.

The event, formerly the Northern 10 and now renamed the Rosemary Mazzone Memorial after a long-serving club committee member, drew a combined field of 170. It was moved from its usual May date because the new half-marathon course needed measuring.

Races started from Mooragh Park and followed the TT course in reverse towards Sulby before splitting, with the half-marathon looping via Clenagh Road and Jurby Road.

Read, the pre-race favourite, missed the start by 1min 38sec but worked through the field to finish second. Burman won in 1:14.45, with Liam Parker third. Christa Cain was the first woman, fourth overall in 1:17.20.

In the 10-mile run, Phil Knox won in 59:09 ahead of James Sayle, while Joanne Schade took the women’s race in 1:07.22.

Neil Wade won the 10-mile walk in 1:23.38, with Rachael Greham the leading woman in 1:33.26.

Awards were presented at Ramsey Rugby Club by Rosemary Mazzone’s son, Ali. Organisers thanked the volunteer marshals, saying the event could not happen without them.
