Households that have not yet returned their 2026 Census form have until 19 November to do so or could face enforcement action and a possible fine, the Isle of Man Government has said.

The Census Office has written to the remaining homes with non-compliance letters explaining why they need to act straight away, according to the Government.

Every household on the island is legally required to complete the Census. The Government warned that homes which do not respond could be pursued under the Census Act 1929, which allows for enforcement proceedings and may result in a financial penalty.

Census Night was 26 April, giving householders almost six months to return their forms. So far 91 per cent have been completed, the Government said.

Cases still outstanding after the November deadline will be reviewed. The Government said each review will consider which notices have been sent, how often the Census Office has tried to reach the household, and what help it has offered.

The Government said the information gathered gives important insight into the island’s population and communities, and helps shape decisions on services such as health care, education, housing and transport.

The Census Office said it is continuing to offer advice and support to anyone who needs help filling in their form. Forms can be completed:

  • securely online through the Census 2026 website, using a phone, tablet or computer
  • by telephone
  • on paper
  • with help from a Census Field Officer

Anyone who gets a non-compliance letter despite having already sent in their return, or who believes they received it by mistake, is asked to get in touch with the Census team without delay, the Government said.

The Census Office can be reached on 01624 685700, Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00, or by email at [email protected]. People can also call in at the Census Office at Customs House in Douglas between 09:00 and 16:00 to hand in a form or ask for help. Further information is available at gov.im/census26.
