Rosa Nelson Rohrer won the 10km run and Phill Swales the 5km walk in the second of the Hansard Global handicap races, hosted by the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club at the NSC on Thursday 15 October, according to Isle of Man Today.

Conditions around the outer track were good, with the wind down on a cloudy evening, the report said. Each athlete’s start was staggered according to their best recent time over the distance.

The event saw its first wheelchair athlete, Mike Ryan. Isle of Man Today reported that he found the constant camber on his chair tricky but still set his best 10km time to date.

Nelson Rohrer won the 10km on a handicap time of 1hr 03min 07sec. Moira Hall was second and Margaret McCabe third. Pete Callin was fastest on actual time in 40min 51sec, ahead of Stephen Schuster on 42min 25sec.

Swales took the walk on a handicap time of 40min 36sec, ahead of Maxine Lace and Yanisa Sananveah. Sophie Watterson-Jones was fastest on actual time in 28min 41sec.

The club also timed seven juniors as guests, outside the competition, which was open to athletes aged 18 and over.
