Nominations for Douglas City Council’s Community Awards close on 31 October, leaving residents of the capital only a few days to put someone forward, Manx Radio and Energy FM reported.

Now in their fifth year, the awards honour people from Douglas who have gone “above and beyond” and are making a “genuine difference” in the city, according to the reports.

There are two categories. Young Hero is for children under 15, and Community Champion recognises ratepayers judged to have made a “significant difference” to Douglas.

Councillor Natalie Byron-Teare called the awards “inspiring”. She said nominations can reflect many kinds of contribution, from charity work and fundraising to working with children.

Last year’s Young Hero, Logan Conor, was presented with his award by the Mayor of Douglas, Steven Crellin, according to a Douglas City Council photograph published by Energy FM.

Information on how to make a nomination is available on the Community Awards Scheme page of the council’s website.
