New Horizon Boxing Club staged a packed amateur show at the Palace Hotel in Douglas on Saturday 17 October, with nine local boxers facing a team from the north west of England, according to Isle of Man Today.

Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and his son Hamish attended as special guests.

The night opened with four non-scoring skills bouts featuring Bailey Powlesland, Josh Arthur-Faragher, Alfie Hamilton-Dalzell and Archie Finch.

In the scoring contests, Evander Smith, making his New Horizon debut, won a split decision over Wigan’s Jordan McKendrey. Alfie Bradford lost a unanimous points decision to Rochdale’s Cain Simpson, while Wisdom Lee Smith lost to Littleborough’s Harrison Wright, with all three judges scoring for the visitor. Lenny Henderson also lost on a unanimous decision, to Ellis Prior.

The top-of-the-bill light heavyweight contest went to Oleksandr Buzylo, a Ukrainian boxer now based on the island, who beat Manchester’s Myles Howden on points. The bout was named best of the night.

The club thanked show sponsor TCQ Limited, the bout sponsors, raffle donors and the public for their support.
