The Isle of Man men’s over-45 tennis team finished runners-up in the Division Three County Championship after a 3-2 defeat to North Wales in the deciding fixture, Isle of Man Today Sport reported.
The squad of captain Neil Ronan, Rob Mason, Nerijus Gricevicius, Jos Woolford, Nigel Hunter and Rob Comber began in August with a 3-2 home win over Norfolk at Castletown Lawn Tennis Club.
In September the team travelled to Wrexham for two matches in one day. They came back from 2-0 down against Cornwall to win 3-2, with Ronan and Hunter, partnering each other for the first time since 2022, taking the final doubles 6-1, 6-0.
The afternoon match against North Wales also went to a fifth and final rubber. Ronan and Comber took the first set 7-6 but lost the second 6-1 and the championship tie-break 10-6.
North Wales were crowned champions, with the island second, Norfolk third and Cornwall fourth, according to the report.
