Manx Fell Runners sent two teams, one men’s and one mixed, to Todmorden for the British Fell Running Relays, where they lined up against many of the strongest clubs in Britain, Energy FM reported on 21 October.
Both entries came through the event’s ballot. The men’s team finished 36th overall.
The mixed team covered the whole course, but a timing chip problem meant its run was listed as non-competitive. Energy FM said the fault cost the team a finish just short of fourth place.
Dan Richmond, on the final leg, recorded the 16th-fastest time for his stage. He had only recently recovered from a 130-mile race. Saul Bradley overtook several runners in the closing stages and finished strongly.
The relay legs took runners over the Yorkshire fells, with steep climbs, boggy ground and stretches that demanded careful navigation.
Scottish club Carnethy won both the men’s and women’s titles. According to Energy FM, Manx Fell Runners saw the event as a successful outing for the island club on the national stage.
In alphabetical order by surname, the club’s runners were Nikki Arthur, Saul Bradley, Matt Callister, Amber Carridge, Nick Colburn, Rosy Craine, Oliver Harrison, Sam Jones, Chris Reynolds, Dan Richmond, Orran Smith and Matt Van-Hooven Christian.
