A new rent-to-buy scheme on the island has attracted almost 1,000 pre-registrations ahead of its launch in early November, according to 3FM.

Own Homes, the company behind the scheme, described the response as encouraging. It said the level of interest pointed to genuine appetite among islanders for another way of getting on to the property ladder, 3FM reported.

According to Own Homes, the scheme is intended for people who can manage the regular costs of housing but find it hard to save a deposit.

The developers Dandara and Hartford Homes are backing the scheme. 3FM said it will be offered on selected properties across major developments on the island.

The 3FM report did not name the developments involved or say how many homes will be available. It also gave no details of prices, rent levels, eligibility or how long tenants would rent before buying.
