Milntown Estate and Gardens, near Ramsey, has applied for planning permission to keep a temporary marquee on site from May to August 2027, according to Isle of Man Today.

The marquee would be pitched in the estate’s main front field, with room for up to 250 guests and around 15 staff working at events. The planning statement names Pitch & Pole as the supplier.

Rather than putting up and taking down a structure for each booking, the estate’s owners argue that a single season-long marquee would save money for customers. The statement says the cost of hiring a marquee is frequently among the biggest additional bills for anyone staging a large event at Milntown.

The estate plans to use it for its TT hospitality event, weddings, corporate functions, and charity and community events, the statement says.

The applicant says the structure would be checked and inspected regularly through the summer and could be taken down if high winds were forecast. Nothing would remain on the field after the season closes.

According to the statement, the marquee would help Milntown “diversify and increase revenue streams”, with the money supporting the trust’s charitable objectives of maintaining and preserving the estate.

Planners have yet to consider the application, and no decision has been made.
