Storms earlier this week have caused more damage to the waste water outfall at Kirk Michael, Manx Utilities has said.

The pipe takes treated effluent from Kirk Michael Waste Water Treatment Works out to sea. A Manx Utilities spokesperson told Energy FM the bad weather had also badly damaged the concrete roadway used to reach the outfall.

The spokesperson said the Department of Infrastructure was handling repairs to the roadway, while Manx Utilities was organising work to fix the outfall.

The area around the damage has been closed off. The spokesperson asked people to stay away from the pipe, saying: “If you are using the beach, please keep clear of the damaged pipe and observe the barriers and signage in place.”
