Households still to complete the 2026 Census have been given until 19 November to do so, with the Census Office warning that those who miss the deadline could face further action, Isle of Man Today reported.
Completing a form is compulsory for every household on the island under the Census Act 1929. The office said that anyone who fails to comply may be subject to enforcement proceedings and a financial penalty.
According to the office, 91% of forms have been returned since Census Night on 26 April. Households whose forms remain outstanding have now received non-compliance letters telling them they need to respond without delay.
Once the deadline has passed, each unresolved case will be looked at individually. The office said it will consider the notices already sent, the efforts made to reach the household and the help it has offered.
The Census Office said the figures give a picture of the island’s people and communities. They feed into planning for public services such as healthcare, education, housing and transport.
Help remains available for anyone who is struggling with their return, the office said. Households can respond in several ways:
- online, through a secure form that works on a phone, tablet or computer;
- by telephone;
- on paper;
- with support from a Census Field Officer.
The office has asked anyone who gets a non-compliance letter after already sending in their form, or who thinks the letter reached them by mistake, to get in touch with the Census team.
The team can be contacted on 685700 from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. People can also call in at Customs House in Douglas between 09:00 and 16:00 to drop off a completed form or get help filling one in.
