Ten local authorities on the island are seeking new members, with nominations for by-elections opening on Wednesday 28 October, 3FM has reported.

The vacancies are spread across Arbory and Rushen, Ballaugh, Braddan, Douglas, Garff, German, Michael, Peel, Port St Mary and Ramsey. According to the radio station, some of the empty seats arose following the general election.

The key dates are:

  • Nominations open: Wednesday 28 October

  • Polling day, where seats are contested: Thursday 3 December

A vote will take place only where more than one candidate comes forward, 3FM said.

Between them, the ten authorities cover communities across the island, from Ramsey and Garff in the north and east to Peel, German and Michael in the west, and Arbory and Rushen and Port St Mary in the south.
