A 37-year-old Douglas man has admitted stealing £800 in cash from the Spar shop on Bucks Road, Isle of Man Today has reported.
According to the newspaper, the man went to the store on 10 September, after it had shut for the day. An employee who was counting the takings opened up for him and let him make a purchase.
When the worker went round the counter to see him out, the man took £800 in cash, the report said.
He appeared before magistrates recently, represented by advocate Paul Glover. Mr Glover requested a probation report, and sentencing has been set for 5 November.
He remains on bail. Isle of Man Today said the conditions require him to stay away from the Bucks Road Spar and to keep in contact with probation services.
