Douglas Council wants people from all walks of life to consider standing in a by-election for the South Ward, Manx Radio has reported.

The contest will fill the seat left vacant by Karel Ver Elst, who has stepped away from the council.

Nominations open on 28 October. Nomination forms can be picked up at City Hall or found on the council’s website, and completed forms must be handed in by 13:00 on 4 November.

Voters in the ward will go to the polls on 3 December.

Whoever is elected will sit alongside Councillors Steven Crellin and David Cretney, who currently represent the South Ward.

Council leader Devon Watson, speaking to Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper, said the new member would be able to take on a range of roles, including in housing, the environment and regeneration, according to Manx Radio. He described the vacancy as an opportunity for residents to give something back to their community.
