A large wave damaged the outside seating at The Shed cafe on Laxey promenade on the night of 26 October, as the latest spell of stormy weather hit the island, according to Energy FM.

The cafe still opened its doors as planned the following morning. Energy FM reported that the business put this down to “a lot of help and muscle power early-doors”, and that it was trading as normal by 09:00.

The Department of Infrastructure announced that Laxey promenade would stay closed until 16:30 on 27 October, Energy FM reported. The department said crews would clear debris from the road once the morning high tide had gone out.

According to the department, engineers had already made a first check of the damage to the road surface. Temporary repair work was planned so the road would be safe for traffic when it reopened later that day.
