Braddan Commissioners are encouraging people to put themselves forward for a by-election to fill the seat left vacant by Peter Scott, who retired from the board earlier this year, Energy FM has reported.
The authority, which is based in Union Mills, said it wants candidates who are community minded and familiar with the parish. It added that it would welcome candidates with specialist knowledge, such as finance or law.
The board’s chair, Andrew Jessopp, told Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper that members deal with a “varied” range of issues. He listed social housing, The Roundhouse, and services including hedge cutting and street sweeping.
At least one candidate has already declared. Earlier this month Alf Caine, who finished third in the Middle constituency at the House of Keys election, said he would stand once the by-election was called, according to Energy FM.
The timetable is as follows:
- 22 October: the Cabinet Office is due to publish the election notice
- 4 November: deadline for candidates to submit nomination papers
