Garff MHK Richard Henthorn intends to bring the proposed offshore wind farm off the island’s coast to next month’s sitting of Tynwald, Manx Radio has reported.
Mr Henthorn, who has campaigned against the plans, will table a motion in the hope that members can hold a general discussion on the proposals, according to the broadcaster.
Infrastructure Minister Jason Moorhouse has meanwhile said that making decisions on windfarm proposals will be “very challenging” for the Council of Ministers, the island’s executive government.
The offshore scheme, known as Mooir Vannin, is being developed by Orsted and would involve 87 turbines.
An independent panel examining Orsted’s proposals finished its examination in September, Manx Radio said. Its report is due to be submitted to the Council of Ministers later this year.
The offshore project is not the only wind energy proposal before the island. Plans for an onshore wind farm at Earystane have already been through public consultation, but Manx Utilities, the publicly owned body responsible for the island’s electricity supply, has not yet lodged a planning application for that scheme, according to Manx Radio.
Mr Henthorn and Mr Moorhouse discussed the issue with Manx Radio’s political correspondent Phil Gawne, along with Middle MHK James Cochrane.
Tynwald brings together the House of Keys and the Legislative Council. Its November sitting is when Mr Henthorn hopes members will be able to discuss the proposals.
