A Douglas technology company has launched an artificial intelligence service designed to take over the handling of phone enquiries for businesses, 3FM reported on 19 October.

Janus AI, which is registered in Market Street, says its product, Beyond Voicemail, aims to do away with conventional voicemail and automated telephone menus. In their place, callers would hold conversations with an AI system.

According to the company, the system can put callers through to the appropriate team, make appointments and respond to enquiries, including outside normal working hours.

Founder James Crawford said the technology was intended to support local businesses, and that it also offered the island a potential export opportunity, 3FM reported.
