Jason Moorhouse, the island’s new Infrastructure Minister, has described Chief Minister Chris Thomas as a departure from his ‘autocratic’ predecessors, Manx Radio reported on 19 October.

The MHK for Arbory, Castletown and Malew made the comments in an interview with Phil Gawne. According to Manx Radio, he believes Mr Thomas is leading in a more collective way. He is confident that Mr Thomas’s style will differ from that of the two men who held the post before him.

Alfred Cannan was Chief Minister immediately before Mr Thomas, and Howard Quayle preceded Mr Cannan.

Mr Thomas was chosen for the post by his fellow members last week. Manx Radio reported that he promised to be ‘first among equals’. The phrase describes a leader who sees himself as one member of a team of ministers rather than someone who directs it from above.

Manx Radio’s report did not include a response from either former Chief Minister.
