Tony Brown, chair of Castletown Commissioners, has said that ‘good links’ with the island’s new Council of Ministers are important to the town’s future.

Mr Brown, a former chief minister, was speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Manx Radio reported on 18 October.

His comments came after Chief Minister Chris Thomas named his ministerial team on 17 October. The Infrastructure portfolio, which carries responsibility for local authorities, went to Jason Moorhouse MHK.

According to Manx Radio, Mr Brown believes ministers should avoid committing ‘too much’ money and time to drawing up a new rates system, and should look for other ways to help instead.

He also said there needed to be a ‘better understanding’ within government of how local authorities work.
