Peel will host a “Festive Manx Day Out” on 28 November to mark the switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights, Energy FM reported.
The event is a joint effort by two charities, Culture Vannin and Isle Listen, working with Peel Commissioners. It is the latest in Culture Vannin’s “Day Out In” events, held during the Year of the Manx Language and leading up to Christmas.
According to Energy FM, families can expect live Manx music, family photography and an exhibition of children’s Christmas cards. Visitors can also try traditional crafts, including making a “Kissing Bush”. The day ends with a lantern parade to Market Square for the switch-on.
Organiser Tiffany Kerruish said there would be “lots of lively fun activities and performances for all the family”, along with the chance to pick up some festive Manx words and phrases. She said the countdown to the lights coming on would be in Manx this year.
Jess Knight, events and community fundraising manager at Isle Listen, said the event showed what local charities could achieve by working together. She hoped it would be “the start of something we can build on in future years”.
Energy FM did not give times for individual activities.
