University College Isle of Man is staging its research festival for the eighth time this week, with events taking place at the Villa Marina in Douglas, Manx Radio has reported.
Proceedings begin on Thursday 22 October. That evening Dr Mairi McFadyen will deliver the yearly keynote lecture organised under the Biosphere Isle of Man banner, and her subject is how culture and nature contribute to a living biosphere.
A day of presentations follows on Friday 23 October, starting at 09:15 and running throughout the day. According to Manx Radio, the topics are wide-ranging. One study examines how bats behave on the Calf of Man, and another looks at how calorie information affects menus aimed at young people.
Anyone may attend, although UCM is encouraging people to book ahead so that a place is held for them. Gail Corrin, the college’s Higher Education Manager, told Manx Radio that the festival welcomes the general public as well as students and researchers.
The broadcaster said last year’s festival drew an audience of more than 300.
