AirBaltic has begun flying direct between the Isle of Man and Tenerife, with free satellite wi-fi on board, Isle of Man Today reported.
The Latvian carrier is operating the route on behalf of C. I. Travel Group, using an Airbus A220-300 fitted with SpaceX’s Starlink internet system. According to the report, the inaugural service took off from Ronaldsway on Monday morning, following weather disruption over the weekend, and was the first time the aircraft type had flown the route.
The weekly return service is planned for Sundays in three holiday periods:
- half-term
- Christmas until the end of February
- the Easter school holidays
The arrangement brings in a new charter partner for C. I. Travel Group, which Isle of Man Today said has run direct holiday flights from the island to European destinations for the past six years.
Alexander Devlin, the group’s director, said he was confident the partnership would “further enhance the standards of service and comfort” expected by customers of its FlyDirect flights. He said flying direct also cut the cost and time of reaching a destination and removed the risk of missing a connection.
AirBaltic was the first European airline to offer free high-speed Starlink wi-fi across its flights, the report said. The A220-300 is designed for short- and medium-haul routes.
According to Isle of Man Today, details of dates, availability and booking can be obtained from C. I. Travel Group.
