The Cooish is our round-up of what the island is talking about. Today, it is mostly sport, with a stormy twist.

Ravens at the Bowl. FC Isle of Man are due to welcome Maghull, from Merseyside, to the Bowl on Saturday in the latest round of the Macron Cup, according to Isle of Man Today. The Ravens’ manager has told Manx Radio Sport that injuries in the squad mean senior players will feature.

The Grenade in London. Burden, the boxer known as “The Grenade”, meets Shauna Browne in London on Sunday. Manx Radio Sport reports that Burden is “really desperate” to return home with titles.

Storm Boelo takes its toll. Two rugby games have been called off because of Storm Boelo, Manx Radio Sport says. Vagabonds are due to host Dunkinfield. Isle of Man Today previewed Douglas’s trip to Firwood Waterloo, with five points between the two sides in the league table.

Hockey takes a breather. Players are away with national sides, so there is no premier league hockey this weekend, Manx Radio Sport reports. Vikings B will hope to stretch their lead at the top of a reduced fixture list.

Premier League football. Gymns face Pulrose, with both hoping to keep pace with the top two, according to Manx Radio Sport, and the round includes a meeting between the top and bottom sides. Isle of Man Today reports that St John’s and Union Mills, both in good form, go head to head, and that leaders Corinthians are back in action after a weekend without a game.

On the run. Island athletes performed strongly at the UK Athletics Fell and Hill Relays, Isle of Man Today reports, in a race that drew many competitors from national level and above. The paper also says the Rosemary Mazzone Memorial races attracted 170 runners across its events on a cold, clear autumn morning, with drama and comebacks along the way.

As ever, check with clubs before setting out, given the weather.
