Drivers using Richmond Hill face evening closures later this month while drainage maintenance is carried out ahead of winter, Energy FM has reported.

The stretch of New Castletown Road between Fort North roundabout in Douglas and Ballacutchell Road in Santon, which takes in Richmond Hill, will be closed to through traffic from 18:30 to 22:30 for up to four evenings. Work begins on Monday 26 October and should be finished by Thursday 29 October at the latest.

Crews will clear roadside gullies and jet the kerbs so that water drains away more effectively once winter sets in. According to Energy FM, the government department carrying out the work said the closure was needed because stones could be thrown out into the carriageway during the operation.

Arrangements during the closures:

  • Through traffic will follow a signed diversion via Kewaigue, Old Castletown Road and Oatlands Road.
  • Drivers coming from Douglas will still be able to reach businesses in and around Newtown, Santon.
  • Residents will keep access to their homes, although they may be held up.
  • Scheduled buses will be guided through the works by marshals.

Energy FM said residents and businesses closest to the works will be told about access arrangements in more detail by letter.
