Burst water main in Ballasalla hits supplies, including at Ronaldsway Airport

Manx Utilities says engineers are dealing with the burst, and the airport says its water is affected but flights are running normally.

Homes and businesses in Ballasalla were left with low water pressure or no supply on Friday morning, 16 October, after a water main burst in the area.

Manx Utilities said the burst had been reported early that morning, according to 3FM. At 06:42 the station reported that the utility’s engineers were carrying out repairs. It said a large part of Ballasalla had been affected and described low pressure or a complete loss of supply in the south of the island.

Ronaldsway Airport is among the properties affected. The airport said its supply had been hit but that flights were not being disrupted, Manx Radio reported.

In its report at 07:33, Manx Radio said residents in the village could be without water that morning. It said Manx Utilities had described its engineers as on their way to make repairs, which differs from 3FM’s earlier account that work was already under way.

Neither outlet said exactly where the main had burst, how many properties had lost water, when supplies would be fully restored or whether any roads near the repair were affected.
