Ten of the island’s local authorities will hold by-elections in December, 3FM has reported.

The station said the authorities began advertising for candidates on 22 October. That means close to half of the island’s local authorities will be electing new members before the year is out.

Some of the vacancies arose when commissioners were elected to the House of Keys, the elected chamber of Tynwald, at the general election. Others were already unfilled before the election, according to 3FM.

The authorities seeking candidates are:

  • Arbory and Rushen
  • Ballaugh
  • Braddan
  • Douglas
  • Garff
  • German
  • Michael
  • Peel
  • Port St Mary
  • Ramsey

3FM separately reported that a date has been confirmed for the Ramsey by-election, which will fill three vacancies on the town’s board.

Each of the ten authorities is now advertising for people to come forward as candidates.
