The mental health campaign group ManxPACT has thanked everyone who took part in its protest outside Tynwald on 20 October, saying the demonstration made its voice heard.

According to Energy FM, the group issued a statement after the protest, which called for improved mental health services and action on suicide on the island. ManxPACT said it had been “overwhelmed” by the number of people who came, with members of the public joined by politicians and the media.

The group welcomed the presence of politicians, among them the Chief Minister, Chris Thomas. It also said Claire Christian, the Health and Social Care Minister, had invited its representatives to talk through their requests in more detail.

ManxPACT paid tribute to the handful of volunteers who organised the event, and to those who turned out while living with depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions themselves.

“Yesterday was the face of mental health on the island, and we were heard,” the group said in its statement.

ManxPACT, whose name stands for Manx People Actioning Change Together, said the day had shown what its community could achieve when it came together.
