The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has praised workers in Douglas whose quick response helped keep a battery fire under control on Monday afternoon (19 October).
Firefighters were sent to reports of a fire at a building. According to Manx Radio, the officer in charge was told on arrival that a battery might have caught fire inside.
The service said the batteries had been kept in a specially built unit intended to stop fire spreading and to put out flames. As a result, the fire did not damage the structure of the building, and there was little smoke damage.
Crews and staff on site worked together to make the battery safe and take it out of the building. It was then moved to a secure spot to await disposal.
The fire service said the workers’ prompt actions meant the fire was contained and nobody was injured.
The service has urged people to follow the manufacturer’s guidance when charging batteries, and not to leave them near routes used to get out of a building.
The service did not say where in Douglas the building is.
