The Albert pub in Port St Mary raised £1,500 for charity at its annual Mhelliah on Saturday evening, according to Isle of Man Today.
The night went ahead even though stormy conditions were causing disruption to sea and air travel to and from the island. The Mhelliah is an old Manx tradition celebrating the close of the harvest, and nowadays it usually takes the form of a charity auction.
Lots on offer included vegetables, a loaf of bonnag, Manx honey, a Harry Potter jigsaw puzzle and two Japanese money trees. Paul Clague hosted the evening, the paper reported.
The money will go to the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association. Its chairperson, Sally Lewis, said everything had sold, adding: “Tonight has been a real community.”
Other parishes are holding their own Mhelliahs. Marown’s is scheduled for 7 November at the Crosby pub, starting at 19:00, Isle of Man Today said.
