Welcome to The Cooish, our round-up of what the island is talking about. This week the weather had a big say in the sporting calendar.
Rugby and football. The Vagabonds’ defeat by Dukinfield was the only local rugby game to survive the weekend’s weather, Isle of Man Today Sport reported. Being beaten by the opposition and the elements in one afternoon feels a touch harsh.
Football fared little better. According to the same outlet, Castletown’s narrow win over D&D was the only match to beat the conditions. The result extended the southerners’ lead at the top of Ardern and Druggan Division Two, in what the outlet called a hard-fought contest.
Hockey. Manx Radio Sport reported that the Men’s B side were beaten in the EH Championships, describing it as a “Bowden win in the storm”.
A golfer’s year. Ana Dawson has completed her 2026 Ladies European Tour season in India, finishing 46th in the final round of the campaign, Manx Radio Sport reported. She told the station she had learnt a lot over the season, and was quoted as saying: “I’ve improved every year.” Few of us can say as much about our golf.
Shooting. Manx Radio Sport covered the sixth and final round of the Suntera Global Sporting League, where Junior Joe finished the season in style.
Basketball is back. The new basketball season got off to a thrilling start at the NSC, according to Isle of Man Today Sport, with reigning champions DGU Jets pushed all the way by Southern Phoenix.
Lace up for Ramsey. Finally, one for the trainers: the Ramsey half marathon is returning for a third year, Manx Radio Sport reports. The hospice event was first held in 2025.
That is it for today. Wrap up warm, check the fixtures before you leave the house, and we will see you next time.
