Only a handful of games survived Saturday's weather, but the island still had an Irish dance haul, a title fight and plans for a new women's football team.

If your Saturday fixture vanished, you were not alone. Manx Radio Sport reported that Storm Boelo left only one football match on the card, with Castletown the winners.

The rugby did go ahead, in what the station called challenging conditions, though the Vagabonds were beaten at home.

It was a similar picture in hockey. Isle of Man Today said the men’s EH Championships Tier Three Vase tie against Bowdon was the only local hockey match to be played at the weekend. The island side lost, but the paper said they went down fighting.

The brightest news came from Irish dance. Energy FM reported that dancers from the Manx Trinity Academy of Irish Dance won three British Open Championship titles at the WIDA British Opens 2026, along with a string of podium finishes and top-six placings. The station said the academy also impressed in the team events.

In boxing, Manx Radio Sport reported that Jade Burden lost to Ireland’s Shauna Browne after a sixth-round stoppage. Energy FM said Browne took the vacant WBA Gold and IBF International Lightweight belts.

In a message to supporters after the fight, Burden said she had moved up a weight to face a very good opponent. “It did not go my way but, look, lessons learned,” she said, according to Energy FM, which reported that she had promised to dust herself down.

FC Isle of Man is to launch a women’s team, according to Isle of Man Today. The club said it had genuine ambitions to develop the side and hoped to move into league football next season.

And finally, one for the quiver. Isle of Man Today reported that an archer from the island will represent the UK at the world championships, which the paper described as one of the foremost international competitions in heritage archery.
