Here is what has the island talking today, from Games sponsorship to a newly named road sweeper.

Island Games. Island businesses will be offered sponsorship packages for the 2029 Island Games at a launch at the Villa Marina on 2 November, Energy FM reports. The packages range from backing a single sport to headline sponsorship, which brings a role in shaping the Games’ logo and core branding.

The island will be hosting for only the third time. Sarah Maltby MHK, the Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, described it as “a once-in-a-generation opportunity”. Manx Radio reports that organisers are looking for a headline partner.

Ramsey. The town’s road sweeper has a new name, according to Isle of Man Today’s Gef, which calls the choice “a bit of a classic”. We’ll let Gef do the reveal.

Rugby. Douglas Rugby Club drew 34-34 away to Winnington Park in Regional Two North West on Saturday, Energy FM reports. Douglas were denied a late win in the Northwich fixture. With Blake Snell and Simon Hoddinott missing from the pack, Cal Dentith and Wilf Kermode moved from the backs into the back row.

Fell running. Manx Fell Runners won two places through the ballot for the British Fell Running Relays in Todmorden, where they raced against leading clubs from across Britain, Energy FM says. The men’s team finished 36th overall.

The mixed team narrowly missed out on fourth place. A timing chip issue meant they were classified as non-competitive even though they completed the course. Dan Richmond was singled out for a strong final leg.

Mountain biking. Isle of Man Today reports that Manx riders dominated this year’s British National Enduro Series. The paper says their results have established the island as a leading source of enduro talent.

Basketball. The new season tips off on Thursday with nine teams in the championship race, two of them new, Isle of Man Today reports. Players will also have some rule changes to adjust to.

TT. John McGuinness has set out his plans for the 2027 season, according to Isle of Man Today. The paper quotes him as saying: “I didn’t want to finish the TT on a red flag!”
