Nominations for the 2026 Douglas City Council Community Awards close on 31 October, and residents are being encouraged to put forward people who have made a difference in the capital, Energy FM reports.

The awards are being held for the fifth time and celebrate people whose efforts have improved life in Douglas. Nominations are open in two categories:

  • Community Champion, open to Douglas ratepayers whose work has had a notable impact on the community
  • Young Hero, open to Douglas residents aged 15 or younger who have made an exceptional contribution

According to the report, nominees might have volunteered, raised money, mentored young people, supported vulnerable residents or worked to protect the environment, among other things.

The Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Steven Crellin JP, will chair the judging panel. He described the awards as a chance to thank those who go “above and beyond” to improve the city.

Energy FM said plenty of nominations had already come in, but the Mayor would like more people to nominate friends, neighbours, colleagues or young people whose work deserves recognition.

Anyone living on the island can submit a nomination, though nominees must live in Douglas. Forms are on the Douglas City Council website, and further details are available from [email protected] or on 696311. Winners will be announced at a presentation later this year.
