Ramsey MHK Juan McGuinness has been given the chairmanship of the Public Services Commission by Chief Minister Chris Thomas, the Isle of Man Government announced on 29 October.

Rob Mercer, a member of the Legislative Council, stays on as the commission’s vice chair. Energy FM reported that Mr McGuinness, who won his House of Keys seat for the first time last month, takes over from Onchan MHK Rob Callister.

The chair of the commission also holds the vice chairmanship of the Public Sector Pensions Authority, so Mr McGuinness will take up that post too. The Government said Mr Mercer remains the authority’s employer representative.

Mr Thomas said he was grateful to both men “for their commitment to this important work”. He said the commission carries wide responsibility for how the public service is run and developed.

He added that the body’s role was vital in backing the Office of Human Resources “to maintain an effective, well-managed and motivated workforce”.
