The Speaker of the House of Keys, David North MHK, has asked Health Minister Claire Christian to explain why planned spending on mental health services is lower in 2026/27 than the previous year, according to Energy FM.

Mr North has submitted a question for written answer referring to Table 39 of the Budget “Pink Book”. He asks what accounts for the reduction of about £2.5 million between probable expenditure for 2025/26 and the 2026/27 budget.

He also asks what changes in expenditure allocation or accounting treatment explain the difference, and what effect it has had on the delivery of mental health services.

Energy FM reported that the Pink Book lists probable net spending on mental health for 2025/26 at £33.516 million, against budgeted gross spend of £31.023 million for 2026/27. The figures are given on different bases, net and gross.

As the question is for written answer, Ms Christian has until 9 November to respond.
