A self-service dog wash has been granted planning approval for a hardstanding car park at the northern end of Mooragh Promenade in Ramsey, Manx Radio has reported.

Doggy Wash Limited, which trades as DoggyWash Isle of Man, said work would start in the coming weeks, with the facility planned to open in January 2027.

The washing machine will be housed in a wooden enclosure. Its doors will be opened and closed in line with the approved hours: 06:00 to 22:00 in summer and 07:00 to 21:00 in winter.

When the Planning Committee considered the application at a public meeting in October, members raised concerns about those hours and about how close the machine would be to a neighbouring property.

Committee member Adele Betteridge asked whether the neighbours would be happy with dog owners using the machine early in the morning and late in the evening. John Teare of DoggyWash (Isle of Man) told the meeting the company would be open to feedback on the hours.

In a statement to Manx Radio, the company said the wash was intended to let owners clean up their dogs after walks or beach visits without bringing the dirt home.

It said it had already applied for similar facilities in Douglas and Peel. It is seeking public backing to convince the local authorities there that the service is “much-needed”.
