Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express will be staged at the Gaiety Theatre in Douglas for the first time next month, Isle of Man Today reports.

Parker & Snell Company is bringing a new production of Ken Ludwig’s stage adaptation, directed by Colin Snell, to the theatre from Thursday 19 November to Saturday 21 November. Four performances are scheduled across the three days.

First published in 1934, the novel puts the detective Hercule Poirot aboard the famous luxury train. Snow brings the journey to a halt, an American millionaire turns up murdered behind the locked door of his compartment, and Poirot has to work out which of the secretive passengers is the killer.

Mr Snell said the company had wanted to stage the play for some time. “We want the audience to feel as though they have stepped aboard the Orient Express with Poirot,” he said.

Producer Carl Parker said that watching the story unfold live was a different experience, even for those who already know it. He added that newcomers need not worry about spoilers.

The company was previously behind the first Manx staging of Christie’s The Mousetrap at the Gaiety, which played to audiences totalling almost 4,000.
