Ronaldsway Met Office has issued an amber warning for coastal overtopping on Monday night, along with two yellow warnings covering gales and a morning spell of overtopping, Manx Radio and 3FM reported.

The three warnings run from Monday morning into Tuesday. They follow Storm Boelo, which Manx Radio said had struck the island over the preceding 24 hours.

The amber warning is in force from 22:00 on Monday 26 October until 01:00 on Tuesday, according to 3FM, with high tide at about 23:30. Manx Radio reported that significant overtopping is expected, with waves and debris likely to be carried onto promenades and coast roads as the tide peaks.

Both outlets said it applies to the promenades at Douglas, Ramsey, Laxey and Castletown, and to Shore Road in Rushen.

The same places are covered by a yellow overtopping warning earlier in the day, from 09:30 to 12:30, with high tide at about 11:00. Manx Radio said strong winds from the south-southeast would push some waves and debris onto exposed promenades and stretches of coast, though the overtopping in the morning was expected to be minor.

A second yellow warning, for gales, takes effect at 18:00 on Monday and lasts until 06:00 on Tuesday 27 October.

Ronaldsway Met Office forecast that winds from the south to southwest would rise to gale or severe gale force during Monday evening and through the night. Gusts of 50–60mph are expected in many places, the forecaster said, reaching as much as 65mph on high ground and exposed parts of the coast.

The Met Office warned this “may result in fallen branches/ trees and disruption to travel”. It said severe gales become less likely once the warning period ends, but southwesterly winds are expected to stay strong to gale force for much of Tuesday.

The warnings at a glance:

  • Yellow, overtopping: 09:30 to 12:30 Monday; high tide about 11:00
