Douglas Council is asking residents to take steps to guard their property as Storm Boelo reaches the island, Manx Radio and Energy FM have reported.

The council wants loose items outside, such as bins and trampolines, to be secured.

Ronaldsway Met Office has put an amber warning in force for the storm, which could bring gusts of up to 70mph.

The local authority says it now has what it describes as “anti-fragile” systems in place to help it deal with the aftermath of severe weather.

Its leader, Devon Watson, told Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper that the council keeps a “healthy” level of reserves to fund its work in the wake of storms. Manx Radio reported that the council budgets for unforeseen circumstances.

Manx Radio has also reported that weather warnings will stay in place throughout the weekend.
