FC Isle of Man recovered from a two-goal half-time deficit to beat Maghull 3-2 at the Bowl on Saturday and reach the third round of the Macron Challenge Cup, Isle of Man Today reported.
The visitors struck twice in quick succession in the first half. Oliver Pritchard scored after 13 minutes, and Sam Smith added a second in the 15th minute when a mix-up in the Ravens’ defence left goalkeeper Adam Killey exposed, according to the paper.
It could have been worse for the home side before the break. Isle of Man Today said Maghull missed several further chances, and Jamie Clark struck the post with a powerful effort from the edge of the area.
The Ravens turned the tie around early in the second half. Charlie Higgins reduced the deficit in the 47th minute, bending his effort beyond Maghull goalkeeper Patrick McLoughlin into the far corner after a deep corner. A minute later Adam Adebiyi ran on to a long ball and lifted it over McLoughlin to make it 2-2.
The home side kept pushing for a winner and found it ten minutes from time. Substitute Jason Charmer finished off a flowing move, converting Dean Pinnington’s cross to put FC Isle of Man 3-2 up.
The win came at a cost. Manager Lee Dixon had to bring on two replacements during the first half after Al Maitland and Jacob Crook went off, and Isle of Man Today said he faces an anxious wait over the fitness of two of his regular players.
The third-round tie is pencilled in for Saturday 21 November, although the date has yet to be confirmed.
