Nine teams will contest this season’s Senior League basketball championship after Wolves and Southern Phoenix each entered a second side, according to Isle of Man Today.
The expansion follows a change to league rules, the paper reported. Players can now move between a club’s matchday squads from week to week, up to a limit on the number of transfers. Some movement was permitted before. The change is meant to let clubs field leaner second teams without fear that a few absences through illness or injury will force them to concede games.
The 2026/27 season will be played as a double round robin, with play-off finals in April. DGU Jets are the defending champions after beating Wolves 74-63 in last season’s final.
The league is also using an electronic scoresheet for the first time, paid for by a grant from Isle of Man Sport, Isle of Man Today said. The system records key statistics for every player, and fans can follow live scores and stats through a free app.
The season was launched last week at the NSC with an officials’ course and a friendly tournament. League fixtures begin on Thursday 22 October in the NSC main hall. DGU Jets face Southern Phoenix at 19:00. At 20:30, Wolves B play Cannons and Cavaliers meet Wolves A. Spectators are welcome and courtside seating is free.
The D2 Development League, for players in school Years 7 to 11, also returns the same evening, running from 18:00 to 20:30 in the main hall. Registration costs £21 for association membership, plus £3 per player each week, according to the report.
