FC Isle of Man fell to a 2-0 defeat against Atherton Laburnum Rovers in the NWCFL Premier Division at The Bowl on 17 October, their second home loss in a row.
According to Manx Radio Sport, it is the first time this season the Ravens have lost consecutive matches or gone two games without scoring. The visitors were playing their first match under new manager Leighton Mills.
Freddie O’Donoghue had the hosts’ first chance, curling just wide after four minutes from Charlie Higgins’s low pass. Atherton went ahead on 29 minutes when Edward Jones crossed from the left and George Chadwick glanced a header past goalkeeper Adam Killey.
Chances were scarce after the break. A deflected Dean Pinnington cross forced a quick save from Atherton goalkeeper James Aspinall on the hour. Late on, the hosts were nearly caught out when Atherton substitute Cal Hunter turned a low cross into the side-netting from close range.
Hunter made amends in the dying moments of stoppage time, beating three defenders before finishing at the near post as the hosts pushed for an equaliser. Manx Radio Sport reported it was Atherton’s third straight win over the Islanders. Chadwick was named man of the match.
