Richmond Hill will close on four evenings this week while the Department of Infrastructure (DOI) carries out drainage maintenance on the main route between Douglas and the south.

The road will be shut from 18:30 to 22:30 each evening from Monday 26 October to Thursday 29 October. According to 3FM, the closure covers the New Castletown Road between the Fort North roundabout in Douglas and Ballacutchell Road in Santon.

The BBC reported that crews will clean out beanie kerbs and clear gullies so that the road drains better before winter. The DOI said the road needed to stay closed while the work is carried out because stones could be thrown into the carriageway.

Drivers will be diverted via Kewaigue, Old Castletown Road and Oatlands Road in Santon.

The department said Newtown businesses and those nearby could still be reached from the Douglas side, and that residents would keep access to their homes. Scheduled Bus Vannin services will not be affected by the closure, according to the BBC.
