Isle of Man Constabulary officers will carry out extra roadside vehicle checks under Operation Uplift, which runs from Monday 26 October to Sunday 8 November, according to Isle of Man Today.

Officers from across the Constabulary will work with partner agencies to check vehicles for roadworthiness. The operation is backed by the Roads Policing Unit and forms part of Road Safety’s Be Bright at Night campaign.

A Constabulary spokesperson said defective lights and other avoidable faults become more common in autumn and winter. They said the force checks vehicles at the roadside throughout the year, but was running an extended operation “to help keep all road users safe”.

Police have also pointed drivers to the POWDERS checklist for routine checks: petrol, oil, water, damage, electrics (including all lights), rubber (tyre tread and pressure) and self, meaning whether the driver is fit to drive.

The Constabulary said the checks should take about a minute before a journey and should be done all year, not just in the darker months.
