A 22-year-old Peel man has been given six months’ probation after admitting being drunk and disorderly, threatening behaviour and resisting arrest, Isle of Man Today reports.
Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told magistrates the man had first shouted abuse at a woman outside the Marine pub on Shore Road at about 21:10 on 28 August. When a man stepped in, the defendant turned on him and threatened him, the court heard.
Passers-by held him back and sent him on his way. Officers later caught up with him at Market Place. There, according to the prosecution, he denied doing anything wrong, became aggressive and obstructive, and hurled abuse at police.
After being arrested he broke free and threw himself to the ground. He then lashed out with his feet as officers tried to get him into the police van, the court was told.
In interview he said he could recall nothing until waking up in a cell.
The court heard he had told the probation service he began drinking at 07:00 that day and had been having difficulties with his mental health. He said he had gone back to alcohol after two years without a drink, and had since referred himself to Motiv8.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said the episode had amounted to “aggressive posturing”. He told the court his client had been so ashamed when shown the officers’ body-worn camera footage that he could not watch it to the end.
Magistrates also ordered him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, to be taken from his benefits at £10 a week.
