The chair of Port St Mary Commissioners, Jean Teare, hopes a “broad range” of people will come forward to stand for two vacant seats on the local authority, according to Manx Radio.

The places have opened up following the retirement of Bernadette Williams and the departure of Glenys Brunt, Manx Radio and Energy FM reported.

Speaking to Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper, Ms Teare said new members would be able to work “first hand” on community projects. She suggested that anyone considering standing put together a “small leaflet” so residents can understand their views on issues in the port.

The commissioners are inviting anyone interested to their board meeting at the town hall at 18:00 on 28 October, to find out more about the authority’s work and how it operates.

How to stand:

  • Nomination forms can be collected from the town hall
  • Completed forms must be returned between 10:00 on 28 October and 13:00 on 4 November
  • If more than two candidates come forward, polling will take place on Thursday 3 December
