The Manx Lottery Trust has given Manx Mencap £30,000 through its Community Award scheme. The money will help pay for the charity’s activities for adults with learning disabilities, Energy FM reported on 24 October.
According to the report, about 480 adults take part in the charity’s activities every week. The sessions aim to help members keep fit, think creatively and feel less isolated.
They range from social clubs, karaoke, and arts and crafts to tailored sessions run by the local entertainer Uncle Fester.
Debs Dixon of Manx Mencap thanked the trust for the grant and said demand was still rising. She called the programme “a real highlight for our members” and said the money would allow the charity to keep offering a wide mix of activities.
David Christian, chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, said the charity “provides an invaluable service”. He said it gives adults with learning disabilities regular chances to make friends, gain confidence and take part in community life. He added that the trust was glad to help the work carry on for members and their families around the island.
